The Funnell Connection

This connection page is dedicated to the surname "FUNNELL"

The following Funnell Trees consist of Funnell men who were all "of Ripe" in Sussex England when they married. I suspect they were all born of the same father, but have no documentary proof at this time.

There are a number of Adult Baptisms in the Parish Registers of Ripe, but I have no way of telling if they are the same family members. As we are not connected to these Trees I call them "My Funnell Twigs"

Perhaps later on these Twigs will become a part of our branch. For Trees that are connected, see below "My Funnell Branches".

My Funnell Branches

These trees we are related to. Our main Funnell Tree descends from Thomas Funnell and Mary Unsted, and they are my daughter's Paternal 10th Great Grandparents. There has been much discussion as to the parents of Thomas, I prefer to leave him "as is" for the moment, until I research more.

Note: I have found a baptism of a Thomas Funnell on 06 Apr 1617 at Hellingly parents: Henry Funnell/Ann Lowdewell. I think this is more than likely our Thomas, it would make him aged 20 when he married Mary Unstead on 24 Jul 1637 at Ripe, Sussex in England.

Many people have asked where we are in the "Funnell" trees. Apart from the above couple Thomas Funnell and Mary Unstead being my daughter's 10th Great Grandparents, we actually begin with a HARRIET FUNNELL. She was my daughter's 5th Great Grandmother.

The Funnell Family and Brickmaking

In the 18th Century [ie 1700's] the Funnell's were associated with 2 Brickyards in Chiddingly which were later taken over by the GUY's.
