This web page is dedicated to the Village of Chiddingly in East Sussex, England.

I have fallen in love with anything to do with this village, from the beautifully kept church, to the local pub!

It all began with a visit to the Churchyard trying to find my ancestors gravestones. I later discovered that they had already been written down and were in printed form in the S.A.C. Collections at the local library. Oh well, I do enjoy looking at the original stones.

The main families that I began to research were the GUY's and the FUNNELL's. But I soon wanted to know more about the village and it's life in olden days.

10 Dec 1798 - William Inkpen of Chalvington, Labourer for the child to be born of Elizabeth Funnell of Chiddingly [They actually married on 12 Dec 1798 at Chididngly]

06 Nov 1818 - John Thelwell late of Ringmer now a Gunner Driver in the Corps of Royal Horse Artillary stationed at Ringmer for the child to be born of Phyllis Funnell of Chiddingly


Bastardy Bonds

17 Oct 1757 - Edward Miller of Burghill of Chiddingly, Gent, bound in £400 to acquit the parish of any charges for the bastard named Philadelphia delivered about 3 years ago of Elizabeth Funnell of Chiddingly, spinster and who within the last 6 weeks was delivered of a bastard named William.

13 Oct 1773 - Edward Head of Chiddingly, husbandsman and Harry Kemp of Heathfield, Miller, bound in £50 to acquit the parish of any charges, as the father of the child to be born of Ann Funnell of Chiddingly
